On-Board Unit Function and Description

 

The On-Board Unit is an electronic technical device providing for unequivocal vehicle identification and determining its position by means of the Electronic Toll Collection System. The On-Board Unit is not portable and from 1 January 2010 the Vehicle Operator shall be liable to use it while driving on specified road sections in the Slovak Republic in a vehicle which is liable to pay the toll.
The System Operator (SkyToll, a. s. ) within the Electronic Toll Collection System operation uses the On-Board Units integrating three key technologies:
             Satellite GPS technology for determining the position (ensuring collection of data about the use of specified road sections);
             GSM/GPRS technology for the communication within the mobile networks (serving for data transmission between the On-Board Unit and other IS within the Electronic Toll Collection System);
             Microwave DSRC technology for short-distance communication (serving for checking the toll payers within the toll collection control process).

Without its holder, OBU 1374 has the dimensions of 145 x 126 x 41.2 mm and the weight of about 480 g. On the front side of the OBU there are indication, control and signalling components enabling the driver to set and use the OBU correctly. The GPS receipt module is equipped by an integrated passive aerial with the option of an external aerial connection. The basic equipment for the installation into the vehicle by means of a cigarette lighter forms an inseparable part of the OBU.

Without its holder, the Sitraffic Sensus Unit has the dimensions of 145 x 93 x 36 mm and the weight of about 260 g. On the front side of the unit there is a display and a four-direction navigation button with the position indicator enabling the driver to set and use the OBU correctly. The basic equipment for the installation into the vehicle by means of a cigarette lighter forms an inseparable part of the OBU.

On the front side of the unit t here is a display and four control buttons and light and acoustic signalling items enabling the driver the set and use the OBU correctly. The basic equipment for the installation into the vehicle by means of a cigarette lighter forms an inseparable part of the OBU.
