As of 1 January 2027, the way the electronic tolling system operates in the Slovak Republic will change. The current electronic tolling system remains in regular operation until 31 December 2026. Until that date, all services of the current electronic tolling system remain fully functional. For journeys on the designated road sections of the Slovak Republic, it is currently still necessary to use the current on-board units.
The new electronic tolling system will be owned by Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, a.s. (the National Motorway Company), which remains the Toll Collection Administrator. From 1 January 2027, toll services under the prepaid toll regime, including vehicle registration, the provision of new on-board units and customer support, will be provided by the company CzechToll s.r.o. as the Toll Services Provider. Re-registration of vehicles in the new electronic tolling system will be available from 1 December 2026.
Notice: The information on this page about changes to the Slovak electronic toll system from 1 January 2027 is intended for toll payers who are currently registered in the Slovak electronic toll system. This information does not apply to toll payers using EETS services.
Important dates
Below we list the key milestones related to the change in the way the electronic tolling system operates in the Slovak Republic and a brief overview of the changes and actions that affect vehicle operators on each date. This overview will be continuously updated with further important dates and related information.
- 1 October 2026
On this day, an information campaign begins about the upcoming changes to the electronic tolling system from 1 January 2027. The new information portal provides basic information about the upcoming changes, which will be gradually supplemented with further details in line with the individual phases of the transition.
- 24 November 2026
From this date, the new information portal will provide detailed information about the toll services provided from 1 January 2027 including the vehicle registration procedure and required documents, the new on-board units, toll payment options, toll account management and customer services.
Registration of vehicles in the new electronic tolling system will be possible from 1 December 2026. From this date, the My Toll customer zone will also be available, through which registration can also be carried out online.
- 1 December 2026
Vehicle registration in the new electronic toll system will begin on this day and can be completed online via the My Toll customer area or in person at selected customer service points. A list of these points will be available on the new information portal. It will also be possible to collect new on-board units for registered vehicles.
- 31 December 2026
Until this date, the current electronic tolling system remains in regular operation and its services are provided to the same extent as before. For journeys on the designated road sections of the Slovak Republic, it is still necessary to use the current on-board units in the current electronic tolling system.
Information on the procedure and dates for returning the current on-board units, terminating the related contractual relationships and financial settlement will be published in advance on the current information portal. Please keep following the News section on this portal.
1 January 2027
As of this date, the way the electronic tolling system operates in the Slovak Republic changes. In the new electronic tolling system, toll services will be provided under the prepaid toll regime.Before the first journey on the designated road sections in the new electronic tolling system, the vehicle must be registered in this system and equipped with a new on-board unit.
Access to the information portals: Both the current and the new customer information portal are available at the address www.emyto.sk. After entering this address, you need to choose the relevant entry point:
- the portal of the electronic tolling system operating until 31 December 2026, or
- the portal of the electronic tolling system operating from 1 January 2027.
Procedure during the transitional period
Until 31 December 2026 the current electronic tolling system remains in regular operation and its services continue to be provided to the same extent as before. The toll payment regimes in the current tolling system do not change either. For journeys on the designated road sections of the Slovak Republic, it is still necessary to use the on-board units of the current electronic tolling system.
However, for toll payers who are currently registered in the Slovak electronic toll system, the transition to the new system will require their vehicles to be re-registered. Vehicle registration in the new electronic toll system will begin on 1 December 2026. Until then, no registration steps need to be taken in connection with registration in the new system.
From 1 January 2027, the new electronic tolling system will be in operation. Vehicle operators who will use this system will already be able from 1 December 2026 to carry out registration of a vehicle or vehicles and to collect new on-board units for them. However, it will be possible to start using them to pay tolls only from 1 January 2027. Before the first journey on the designated road sections within the new electronic tolling system, the vehicle must be registered in this system and equipped with a new on-board unit.

What does not change as of 1 January 2027
The basic principles of electronic toll collection in the Slovak Republic remain unchanged. Neither the toll collection technology nor the method of calculating the toll changes. The toll rates, the network of designated road sections and the categories of vehicles subject to the toll obligation also remain unchanged. Vehicles subject to the toll obligation must continue to be registered in the electronic tolling system and equipped with an on-board unit before travelling on the designated road sections.

What changes as of 1 January 2027
From 1 January 2027, electronic toll collection in the Slovak Republic will continue in the new electronic tolling system. Vehicle operators who wish to use this new system will have to, before their first journey on the specific road sections of the Slovak Republic:
- register their vehicle or vehicles in the new electronic tolling system,
- enter into new contractual relationships,
- collect new on-board units.
In the new electronic tolling system, toll payers will have the prepaid toll regime available. Within the toll services provided under this regime, toll payers will have access to a new customer information portal with the My Toll customer zone, a new network of customer points across the Slovak Republic, and a new customer line.

Registration of vehicles in the new electronic tolling system
Registration of vehicles in the new electronic tolling system under the prepaid toll regime will be possible from 1 December 2026, in the following ways:
- online through the new My Toll customer zone on the new information portal, or
- in person at selected customer points.
From 1 January 2027, in-person registration of vehicles will be possible at the entire network of customer points. A list of the customer points where a vehicle or vehicles can be registered in person will be available on the new information portal from 24 November 2026 in the section Customer support and will be continuously updated.
For a simpler and more convenient process, it is advisable to use online re-registration in particular. Registration includes the submission of the required documents, verification of the data on the vehicle operator, the registered vehicle or vehicles and the person carrying out the registration based on the documents submitted, as well as entering into new contractual relationships.
During registration, for each registered vehicle it will mainly be necessary to submit the vehicle registration certificate, technical certificate or another similar document. Depending on the type of vehicle operator and the person carrying out the re-registration, further documents may also be required, for example proof of identity, an extract from the relevant register, or a power of attorney. If the vehicle documents do not clearly show the EURO emission class, or if the vehicle's classification in a CO₂ emission class other than CO₂ 1 is being demonstrated, the relevant documents must also be submitted.
Detailed information about the vehicle registration procedure in the new electronic tolling system, the persons authorised to carry out this registration and the complete list of required documents will be available on this portal from 24 November 2026 in the section Registration.
New on-board units
Every vehicle registered in the new electronic tolling system will also be assigned a new on-board unit. Before the first journey on the designated road sections of the Slovak Republic in the new electronic tolling system, the vehicle must be equipped with this new on-board unit.
New on-board units can be from 1 December 2026 collected as part of the vehicle re-registration at selected customer points. From 1 January 2027, new on-board units will be available at the entire network of customer points. If a replacement is needed, for example in the event of damage or malfunction, the new on-board unit can be replaced immediately at the nearest customer point.

Toll payment and toll account management
From 1 January 2027, the new electronic tolling system will have the prepaid toll regime available. This regime is particularly suitable for vehicle operators who drive exclusively or predominantly in Slovakia, as well as for foreign carriers, especially from the border areas of neighbouring countries, who regularly use the Slovak tolled road network in addition to their domestic road network. Under this regime, the toll is paid according to the applicable rates without any additional administrative fees.
During registration, a contractual relationship and a toll account are set up. One or more vehicles can be registered under a single contract and a single toll account. At the same time, it will be necessary to make an initial top-up of the prepaid toll and to pay a refundable deposit for each on-board unit. No further financial security for toll payment will be required.
If more than one vehicle is registered on a single toll account, the balance of the prepaid toll will be shared by all these vehicles. The toll account can be managed online through the new My Toll customer zone.
The prepaid toll can be topped up by payment card or an accepted fuel card in the My Toll customer zone as well as at customer points. In the My Toll customer zone, a bank transfer can also be used, and at customer points, cash payment is also possible.
In the customer zone, it will also be possible to set up automatic top-up of the prepaid toll by a chosen amount. This reduces the need to continuously monitor and manually top up the balance of the prepaid toll, and also reduces the risk of the on-board units being blocked due to a negative balance on the toll account.

Settlement of current contractual relationships
Until 31 December 2026 the current electronic tolling system remains in regular operation and its services continue to be provided to the same extent as before.
After the current electronic tolling system's on-board units are taken out of use, these on-board units will need to be returned and the related contractual and financial relationships will need to be settled.
Information about the procedure and dates for returning the current on-board units, terminating the related contractual relationships and financial settlement will be published in advance on the current information portal and will also be available through the customer line of the current System Operator at telephone number +421 2 35 111 111. Updates to this information and these dates will be published on an ongoing basis in the News section on the current information portal.
