CzechToll launches an information campaign for hauliers; the new electronic toll system will start operating on 1 January 2027

Bratislava, 1 October 2026 – CzechToll is launching an introductory information campaign on the changes in the operation of the electronic toll system in Slovakia that will take effect from 1 January 2027. The new electronic toll system will be owned by Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, which remains the Toll Collection Administrator.

Vehicle registration in the new toll system to start on 1 December 2026

From 1 January 2027, a new national electronic tolling system will be in operation in Slovakia. The transition from the current system to the new one will also mean that vehicles need to be re-registered. Vehicle operators who use the new toll system from that date will need to register their vehicles in it anew. Registration will involve concluding new contractual relationships and equipping vehicles with new on-board units.

What will change in the electronic toll system from 1 January 2027?

From 1 January 2027, toll collection in the Slovak Republic will continue through a new electronic toll system. The new system will be owned by Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, a.s., which will remain the Toll Collection Administrator. Toll services under the prepaid toll regime, including vehicle registration, the provision of new on-board units and customer support, will be provided by CzechToll s.r.o. as the Toll Service Provider.

For vehicle operators who will use the new electronic toll system from 2027, this will primarily mean registering one or more vehicles in the new system, entering into new contractual arrangements and obtaining new on-board units.

What will remain unchanged from 1 January 2027?

The basic principles of electronic toll collection in Slovakia will remain unchanged. There will be no change to the toll collection technology, the method of calculating tolls, toll rates, the network of specified road sections or the categories of vehicles subject to toll payment. Vehicles subject to toll payment must continue to be registered in the electronic toll system and equipped with an on-board unit before travelling on specified road sections.

How long will the current toll system remain in operation?

The current electronic toll system will remain in normal operation until 31 December 2026. This means that all of its services will continue to be provided without change until that date, and the current on-board units must continue to be used for journeys under the current system.

Do I need to do anything now?

No. In connection with the new electronic toll system, you do not need to take any action at this stage. Continue to use the current electronic toll system and its services in the same way as before.

Towards the end of the year, however, as part of the transition to the new electronic toll system, you will need to pre-register your vehicle or vehicles and obtain new on-board units for them. Vehicle pre-registration for the new toll system will begin on 1 December 2026.
